NatGeo Downloader 2.0 Grabs Over 5,000 Wallpaper-Worthy Photos [Updates]
Windows: National Geographic’s web site has some stunning photography, and a lot of it makes for good rotating desktop backgrounds. The NatGeo Wallpaper Downloader we’ve previously enjoyed has updated with interface improvements, bug fixes, and access to thousands more images.
The app’s developer writes that while his first release of the app made it convenient to grab a few hundred of National Geographic’s photography contest images, this 2.0 version broadens your access to more than 5,000 images. Future versions should expand the range even further. It’s a Windows-only app, but Linux and Mac users with some command line savvy can still get in on the NatGeo action.
NatGeo Wallpaper Downloader is a free download for Window systems.
Wallbase Helps You Find Fresh Desktop Wallpaper [Wallpaper]
Wallbase catalogs wallpaper to bring you over 350,000 unique wallpapers. Take a peek inside to find something new for casual Friday.
Wallbase is a huge database built by scraping the image boards of 4chan related to wallpapers and high resolution images. The database is searchable by keyword as well as variables like whether or not images are NSFW—we'd caution you that images are user tagged and the database constantly updates so the chances of something sneaking through the NSFW filter are moderately high, keep that in mind if you're browsing at work. You can also specify image size, screen ratio, and whether or not you'll scan all the available boards or a specific sub-board.

Microsoft Releases More Free Windows 7 Theme Downloads [Themes]
Windows 7 already has a good batch of stylish themes and eye-pleasing wallpaper, and now Redmond has opened up its vaults and released new themes and wallpapers, some of them with sponsored partners.
Gearheads and greasemonkeys (the kind that aren’t into custom JavaScript/CSS tweaking) will probably dig the sponsored themes crafted by Ferrari, Ducati, Infiniti, and Porsche. Those looking to spruce up their desktop with frames from around the world can grab international themes from more countries than originally included in Windows 7′s Release Candidate packages.
The full-fledged themes are specific downloads for Windows 7 users, but anyone can grab the wallpapers from Windows 7′s Personalization Gallery for their system. Got another source for your newly-installed system’s theme? Tell us about it in the comments.
The Million Years of LiteStep Desktop [Featured Desktop]
Reader nitzua’s Windows XP desktop completely customizes the interface without cluttering up the desktop with gadgets you might never see—moving launchers into the context menu using the LiteStep alternate shell environment.

- Icons – Gnome from the tango patcher
- Wallpaper – ‘renew’ from the nature details pack
- Litestep – blend of zero by jive (kareem) and a theme he started for me based on this mockup
- Firefox – Tiny Menu, Titlebartweaks, custom userchrome.css, custom theme
- Start page – my mod of twelve by noka
- Applications – Zeed image viewer (reshacked), Pidgin, Mirc, Y’z shadow, Qttabbar
- Font – Lucida Grande
Impressive job, nitzua!
